a moment of reflection
Resting my feet (in boots that definitely weren’t made for walking) I gaze out the window of Starbucks and contemplate my morning – a four am wake-up call followed by pounding the pavement in search of Black Friday shoppers (and bargains!).
Resting my feet (in boots that definitely weren’t made for walking) I gaze out the window of Starbucks and contemplate my morning – a four am wake-up call followed by pounding the pavement in search of Black Friday shoppers (and bargains!). What’s been most interesting to me is how friendly people have been. Sure, there was fierce competition for laptops in the morning, but since then, things have been relatively calm. Shoppers have proceeded with enthusiasm, and manners. In one Starbucks where I went to type, a lady offered to share her table so I could set up my laptop. In another store, a lady actually apologized when I bumped into her! From my past experiences, this was not a typical Black Friday. All I could think was, “Is this NYC?”
Still, there have been some rough moments. Working on caffeine and adrenaline, I headed to Old Navy, a favorite chain store with a 3 story outpost in NYC. I passed colorful fleece and posters proclaiming, “Surprise! It’s glam!” The music was festive and the mood light. Then, as I was trying to get an ariel shot of the basement sale room, I was approached from behind by a large security guard wearing a shiny blue jacket and a stern expression. “Miss, I’m going to have to ask you to leave,” he said. Meekly, I made my exit, feeling more like a paparazzi than a journalist. But, hey, I got the photo! Ah, the life of a blogger on the streets of NYC
