Food, glorious food!
Hello, kids. Miss me?
Having left the (relative) tranquility of Princeton behind, I’ve ventured north to the Upper West Side, where I visited the gourmet shop of gourmet shops, Balducci’s. Filled with the most expensive of fancy eats, Balducci’s has long been a beacon to foodies of every palate, including yours truly.
The luxury food items in Balducci’s are excellent gifts for gourmands, and I was quite impressed to see many kinds of baskets filled with snacks, ranging in price from $25 to $125. Before telling me to stow the camera, a staff member gave me their catering menu and gift basket list, where I learned that one can purchase a poached salmon display or a peppered tenderloin of beef for a mere $199. She would not, however, tell me how many people have ordered what, only what was available.
Balducci’s has long been known for their delectable sweets, and while I was unable to find the $25 pints of ice cream I’d long heard of, I did find fudge for $15 per pound. Well, what else are you going to serve with your $199 salmon?
And for the record, the $15 shrimp cocktail platter from A&P that I served at my last party was pretty dang good. And having saved $184 by not going for the fancy name, I treated myself to a Broadway show. Just a friendly comment from your price-conscious correspondent.
