Have A Nice Day

First stop: Best Buy in Lansing, Ill a suburb south of Chicago. At 4:45 a.m. the parking lot is completely filled and a line was wrapped around the building. These people had been there for hours.

There was not enough tryptophan in these peoples’ diet. No deep Thanksgiving Night slumber for these hearty shoppers.

“People were here as early as 9:00 last night. Most of us (employees) came in at 4:00 this morning,” said one employee. “We handed out tickets this morning to the people in the front of the line for big ticket items.”

Suddenly, it was 5:00 and the doors opened. The store filled up within five minutes and the people that were the line flooded the store. Many of these people were focused and knew what exactly what they wanted. The computer section was stuffed and a line formed in this area. There are advertised laptops for under $400 and PC’s under $150.

Paul from Calumet City, Ill. had this to say about his selection of merchandise, “I got most of the stuff that I wanted. I really wanted to get a computer but, I wasn’t here early enough. I got here at about 3:30. I was too far back in the line to get the tickets that they handed out to get some of the good stuff.”

As I exited the store the handful of assorted employees all said, “Have a nice day,”as I passed them.
I responded,” thank you, you have a nice day yourself.”
One employee answered back with a smile, “oh, we will.”

It was harder to get out of the parking lot than it was when I arrived. There was a traffic cop at each the exits of the stores lot.
