John Heidecker of New Paltz, NY traveled two and a half hours to Manhattan’s Black Friday to shop and spend time with his girlfriend, Kate. “It’s pretty crazy out here, but I like shopping the sales. My girlfriend has expensive taste, so finding the best deals is important.” On his agenda? “I’ll hit Express, because I know she like’s their clothes, and I like the way they look on her.” Heidecker found a sexy silk camisole for Kate at Express, as well as a bargain for himself- stocking up on 12.50 shirts, he was one of the customers awarded a free hat and scarf for making purchases before eleven am. “I like watching the people scramble and try to beat each other to get stuff,’ he said. “I also like coming to NYC because it’s not a shopping mall. I like feeling the individuality of each store and checking out their storefront.”
However, Heidecker admits that parking has been a nightmare. “My girlfriend gets mad at me when my road-rage takes over, but these cabbies drive me crazy,” he said. “I used to deliver organic
produce to restaurants in NYC, so I can work the gridlock with the best of them.”
Leaving Express, Heidecker was headed to get some coffee. Shopping has made me work up an appetite, he said, but it look’s like my girlfriend is not going to stop. She can shop till she drops, Heidecker added, observing also, “It seems like Starbucks is taking over the world- there’s one on every corner.”
