Still not dawn yet

Just after 7am now and I’ve made some more rounds. I headed off to Lowes to check out the crowds there, but they didn’t compare to Best Buy or Circuit City, thank goodness. I just had to get their little $9.99 tote box for the garage.

Here in Lynnwood, just north of Seattle, WA, is Alderwood Mall, and next to that is a several block shop-o-rama of stores such as Best Buy, Circuit City, Barnes&Noble, Nordstrom Rack, Lowes, Staples, Babies R Us, you name it, all crammed as closely as possible.

Turns out this is a good thing because trying to drive to these stores on Black Friday is fruitless. One can cover the same distance by walking, as many are doing. However, this is difficult if you’re doing any kind of serious shopping. So, most of us drive between stores, and every parking space is filled. An empty spot is immediately filled.

Why oh why do people take their huge SUV’s to these places? They can barely circumnavigate around the illegally parked cars blocking the parking lot’s traffic lanes.

Next was on to Circuit City. The traffic was made worse by a small traffic accident, further choking traffic down. Later on I learned that a car had already been stolen from the parking lot. Why steal the contents of the car when you can steal the entire ride?

Spoke with the fellow loading tv’s and such at Circuit City, he said this little Panasonic 15” LCD TV was a very hot seller:

While inside I bumped into the very couple that hosted me the previous night for Thanksgiving. They were there to buy a TV, as were many others, and it seems Circuit City had a computer failure, causing them to rot in line for over 45 minutes. This put a fly in their shopping plans, but they adapted by having one person stay in line, and the other go to Mervyn’s and get what they needed. It worked out well.

Writing for this journal means I cannot actually partake in many of the big sales, as waiting in the lines would preclude a blog but every 90 minutes. People were waiting in huge lines for the store to open, then shortly thereafter would be sitting down waiting to check out. At least it was warm and cozy inside. It’s 45 and rainy outside.

Forecasting in Seattle is easy. If you can’t see Mt. Rainier, it’s raining. If you can see it, it’s about to.
