The Peninsula Hotel

As I trudged on through the afternoon, feeling like Atlas carrying the weight of the world on my shoulders, I passed the Peninsula Hotel, where delivery men were unloading lavishly ornamented fresh decorations that would add just the right touch for the Christmas season. As I dreamed about what it would be like to throw caution to the wind and max out my credit card for one night at the five star hotel, I was snapped back to reality when a familiar, yet odd face passed me by. Lo and behold it was Anna Wintour! The unmistakable editor in chief of the most influential women’s fashion magazine in the World- Vogue. She strode by me wearing a black hat, oversize sunglasses, and a frown. Only 6 hours in New York so far and already my first celebrity sighting. Before I could ask her what was on her shopping list, she whisked herself away, wearing an outfit that likely cost more than my car.
When I returned to the warmth of the coffee shop, I let myself dream for a few moments about what it would be like to stay at the Peninsula Hotel after shopping on Fifth Avenue. The 23 story landmark building was built in 1905 and reopened after a 45 million dollar renovation in 1998. According to the Peninsula’s website, it incorporates state of the art technology that allows guests to control their environment with the touch of a fingertip. Before I shove my frostbitten fingers back into my gloves, I take heart. This is New York, and anything can happen!
