Closing Remarks...

Thanks for spending the day with me as I journeyed around taking in the action and lack of action on Black Friday Santa Monica Style...

Having done a bit of research ahead of time, I discovered that most of the big holiday events in Santa Monica take place next weekend, charity shopping events, bazaars, special walks, lighting ceremonies and Santa sightings will be December 2-4. I wish I could have brought you some of that today but the good news is, you could come here still and see it for yourself.

Back in the melee...

After a nap, necessary but luxurious as well, I was back out in the shopping world. WHAT A CHANGE three hours made!

But I am not really surprised...

Home At Last

Funny to feel like a whole day has gone by and it's only 10:50!

The dog is happy I am home, we're going to go walk some of that turkey off before I head back out into the madness (assuming there will be some) this afternoon.

Turned on the TV and they are showing frenzied crowds in the outlet malls but when the traffic helicopters flew over the "regular" malls the shots looked a lot like what I saw out there.

Catch you all later!

Jinky's!?! (no, not Scooby Doo) Crepes, instead...

Last Monday when I was plotting and planning my Black Friday Itinerary I met my friends for breakfast at our favorite 2nd Street cafe. Jinky's, the service is, well, you do get your food and its really good so its okay that it takes a while and you have to ask twice for tabasco. But, what intrigued me was the advertisement on the door, a print out from someone's computer inviting us back for a Pre-Shopping Breakfast.

Granola Pancakes, home-made sausage and "endless" coffee are worth having twice in one week so back I went today...

Montana Avenue

The shops along Montana are all sparkly and ready for the season but none of them open before 11 today. This is the very best window shopping spot...

And there were a few crowds...

I think someone forgot to send a memo!

Here we are at Santa Monica Place.

It's been open for over an hour and now we are starting to see some shopping action...

The Promenade...good place to walk today

IMG_5422.JPG

This shopping area is a very popular destination, on the weekend it is full of vendor carts, street performers and crowds and crowds of people...right now it is a nice thoroughfare for a stroll.

If you really want to see...

This is how they do it…

Still looking for the people!!! I walked up to Michael’s at 5:55, figuring my other counterparts around the nation had covered Circuit City in general. I waited until the sales woman unlocked the door, she looked surprised to see me. An elderly couple got out of their car and walked in behind me.

(As you can see, I took the picture while still walking!)

Black Friday…Santa Monica style…

Last night, I prepared like all the shoppers I was about to meet. Alarms (plural) set, coffee machine set to start on its own, warm clothes laid out (hey, its not Chicago but we are by the beach and it is chilly in the morning, or so I have heard), lists made.

This morning, alarms went off, other family members, including the dog were less impressed, grumbled and went back to sleep. I poured coffee, squinted in the mirror to see well enough to put on make-up. Once dressed, I checked the Black Friday Watch (BFW) website to see what everyone else had to say and then off I went.

It's beginning to look a lot like...

The holidays, which seemed so far away, are suddenly here. I have lived in other parts of the country, parts where the leaves changing, the frosty mornings and even the taunting, teasing early snow showers give warning of the impending holidays. I moved to Los Angeles eight years ago and each year the holidays still come as a bit of a surprise.
